The 22-year-old tennis player Emma Raducanu ends the current season and will keep trainer through next year.
Emma Raducanu made it to the third stage in three out of four Grand Slams during the season.
The British tennis star Emma Raducanu has withdrawn from her remaining competitions of the year because of a health issue that has affected her over the past 10 days.
Raducanu, aged 22 was scheduled to compete in Tokyo and Hong Kong but chose to travel back to regain her health prior to beginning her preparations for 2026.
Those preparations are set to feature trainer Francisco Roig, as they have decided to continue collaborating for the upcoming season.
She required blood pressure checks in her opening round against Ann Li in the Wuhan tournament and stopped playing when trailing 6-1 4-1 on an oppressively humid day.
She again required a visit from the doctor at this week's Ningbo Open, where she fell in a three-set match to local wildcard Zhu Lin in round one.
She was also playing noticeably restricted in the deciding set against Zhu owing to the lower back problem that has been a concern on several occasions in 2025.
These outcomes meant an encouraging season, in which the player advanced into the world's top 30 after a long gap since her previous ranking, concluded with three straight losses.
The athlete was close to victory with three match points before losing to Pegula in the third stage in the Beijing tournament last month.
The player achieved 28 matches in the current season and advanced to the semis in the Washington tournament, but the highlight of her season was at March's Miami Open.
Ranked first in Britain made the last eight of a premier WTA event, beating eighth seed Emma Navarro during the tournament prior to a loss in three sets to the world number four Pegula.
She worked with trainer Mark Petchey from the Miami event through Wimbledon, with Roig assuming the role for the US Open.
The initial agreement with the ex-coach of Rafael Nadal was for the remainder of the year but the collaboration persists, with a training block pencilled in in the coming months.
The athlete revealed that her three-day trial with Roig post-Wimbledon was like a "covert operation" as they aimed to maintain secrecy.
The player was close to defeating top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka at the first competition with Roig in August's Cincinnati tournament.
Roig was also with Raducanu in New York, where she made the third stage before being beaten by 2022 Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina.
