The Blue Jays Earn Fall Classic Matchup With the Dodgers
Springer contributed to the Houston Astros securing the championship in the 2017 season.
The Toronto Blue Jays earned a spot in their initial championship series following the 1993 season by beating the Seattle Mariners in the seventh game seven of the ALCS.
Down by two runs, Springer hit a three-run home run in the seventh inning, propelling the only Canadian franchise in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 win in the seven-game series. Awaiting them are the Los Angeles Dodgers, holders of the current crown, in the upcoming World Series.
"I'm just so happy for everyone here, the city, the nation," said Springer, a key player of the Houston Astros team that secured the 2017 title. "This is such an amazing experience."
Springer has now slugged twenty-three post-season home runs, placing him third in history trailing only Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Altuve (27).
"I can't think of anyone else in the world that I'd prefer in that spot other than him with his playoff prowess," noted Schneider.
Seattle, despite leading the series 2-0 and 3-2, are still the one club never to appear in a Fall Classic.
Mariners manager Dan Wilson stated "there's no question that it's going to sting" following his club's elimination at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but praised their efforts throughout the year.
"This is a unique group. It's a shame that we had to come out on the losing end of this game," he continued.
Toronto's team claimed the World Series on both previous visits in 1992 and '93, and are set to host the Dodgers in the opener on Friday.
