The Red Devils Set to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Signing for United

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her contract, has been a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee coup for the WSL team.

Departure from Bayern was expected after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading forwards. According to reports, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Reliable Goal Threat to Boost United's Attack

The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a major uplift to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been highly reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Carrington

Securing the German international comes at a time when United seem to be building momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen further business:

  1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's extension, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
